Why the name Spanda?
Spanda is a Sanskrit word that literally means a "drop","pulsation" or "vibration". Everything in the universe, from the Microcosm to the Macrocosm, starts from a centre point and from it, expands into something bigger. A drop of water into a tank will produce circular harmonic ripples that move outwards and expand away from the centre. There are innumerable examples that show us this spiral shape. A sea shell, the eye of a cyclone, and even our Galaxy, The Milky Way, has the form of a spiral.
The source of everything is originated by a divine pulsation.
I also chose this name because in England we spend our lives talking about the weather. How grey it is, how sad we feel when there is no light. But the concept of Spanda also relates to that point of light that exists inside each one of us. It is not that we bring light into our lives, is that we are light and we have the capacity to shine in the midst of darkness. Each one of us is a container of light. The more we connect to that divine pulsation- the more we become a vessel of light. And let's be honest, isn't it nice to walk around and bring light wherever we go? That no matter in which circumstances we find ourselves, we can connect to silence and see that little light pulsating inside our hearts?
Also, as we get older, and hopefully wiser, we look back into our past mistakes and we have the capacity to evolve and expand. Again, just like a spiral.
So yes, there is a lot of misery out there. Loads of reasons to feel low. However, the more we develop the ability to connect to our"inner light" the easier it becomes to embody our true essence.
